Teach Like a Pirate {Chapter 2: Immersion} & a Fun in the Sun Linky!

Welcome to the second day of the book study for 'Teach Like A Pirate' written by Dave Burgess.  If this is your first time visiting me, please don't feel like you're missing things! :)  This book is such a fun read, you'll catch us in no time at all! :)

Chapter 2: Immersion

Today's chapter is all about our ability as educators to completely immerse ourselves in the task of teaching.  

Are you a lifeguard or a swimmer?
     

This was a great teaching analogy! :)  Teachers who are like lifeguards 'sit above the pool action and supervise', while teachers who are like swimmers are participating in all that it takes to enjoy the activity in the pool.  This is also very valuable advice for parenting as well.  I don't have children myself, but, I've been married for six years.  There are times where I am not as balanced as I should be, and I'll have my computer sitting on my lap working on a post or resource for the classroom while my husband and I are watching a movie.  Sometimes, he just wants to spend time with me and talk to me...and I'm not always immersed in that.  That's one of the reasons why this summer I've got a post dedicated to what I am doing for fun...for myself.  It's important that we balance out our professional lives and our personal ones.  Kids don't stay kids forever.  Make sure that when you are 'with them' you are really WITH them! :)  I did some valuable thinking today! :)  What did you take from the reading?

Next up...what did I do just for me this week?  My husband has suggested that we take a walk together every day.  That's been really cool! :)  It's a nice way to unwind after dinner and just hang out and talk.  So glad he suggested it! :)  It's a little bit hot around here these days and we're being swarmed by mosquitoes sometimes...but...there's no one I'd rather walk around and be bitten with than Chris. (Plus, he's so tall, they usually flock to him first!:)  I've also been doing a good bit of reading in my down time.  This week, for fun I read this book by Lori Wilde called the Cowboy and the Princess.  Ya'll know I love a good romance and it was cheap!  You can get it on Amazon for about 2.00.  Good light stuff!  Read it in three days!  If you did something special and fun just for you this week...feel free to link up below! :) Well, that wraps it up for me for now...check back with me this afternoon for my post on Word Nerds!  It's a linky with Sabra! :)
