Great Ideas: Mini-Rubrics

I am so excited to be a part of the...

I really do love teaching writing, but...the GRADING is always a pain in the derriere! :(
One of the things that has helped me out a ton is having a 'mini-rubric'.
For this particular writing, the students read a story from the basal text called 'From Cows to You'.  It was all about how we get milk from cows to the store! :)

After reading the story throughout the week several times, I had the students code the text with mini-post its.
We were going to write an informational piece with the steps of how we get milk! :)

This was a 'quick write'.  Usually, we go through several steps, but for this task, I just wanted them to work on research skills and a finished writing.

My students are very familiar with rubrics.  I talk with them about the numbering system whenever I am assessing their progress in different subjects.  I have percentages above the numbers so that parents understand where their kids are in my estimation.
I affix the mini-rubric to the back of each finished writing for ease of grading.

I print these four to a page to save on paper! ;)
You can make your own using the table feature in word or power point.
I prefer working in powerpoint. :)

Um...for real...Brooke is so tall! :)  Everyone in my family is tall--except for me. :(  I'm so jealous! :)
It helps to FINALLY have someone tall enough to reach things in the classroom.
But...back to the mini-rubrics for writing...
My sweet intern helped me grade these!  Together we were done in about 30 minutes!
Love this girl! :)  I tell ya...I'm going to miss her when she's gone! :(
Next week...she takes over for the full day! :)
She's doing a great job! :)
