Apple Week: Things I learned from Katie

Katie and I in Las Vegas last summer!
I am so excited about this week's Peek at My Week! :)
I'll be sharing some of my favorite apple themed units from Katie over at Teacher to the Core! :)
Thanks, Dee Dee for hosting this linky every weekend! :)
I use *a lot* of Katie's stuff in my room! :)
She can't be beat on a seasonal unit, people.
Trust. me.
This week, I'll start with my visual plans so that you can see which of Katie's units I'm using, and then break down the awesome that is her apple stuff!
Ready?

I use Katie's American Heroes pack throughout the year! :)  It's super versatile! :)  Katie offers several different resources on each of the famous American's featured.  We read several mentor texts on Johnny...and on apples as well! :) I used her fluency on Johnny and at the end of the week, I used her assessment as an listening comprehension quiz.

We also used her Apples & Appleseed pack! :)
Something I LOVE about her seasonal resources are the mini-books.  They were super student friendly! :)  The students practiced them often.  Next week, we will be able to go back and re-read them in our read to someone centers! :)
We made the applesauce using the recipe from this pack.  I used the mini-quiz from this unit after reading several books on apples! :)

We read the story Millie Waits for the Mail this week as part of our basal series! :)  The kids really loved it! :)

I whipped up this cow craft and then the students wrote about Millie! :)  I'm going to *try* to get a second post out this week about my approach to writing in the primary classroom.  Stay tuned! :)

This story will have your children barley breathing- freebie included in post
Check out Katie's post and FREEBIE, HERE! :)

We finished up our week with this wonderful freebie from Katie's blog! :)  She didn't write it, but she adapted it, and had a writing extension as well! :)
Such a sweet story! :)

I had two wonderful moms come in and help me with my crafts! :)  I even had them teach part of the lesson! :)  They were amazing! :)

Katie...thank you SO MUCH for your wonderful apple themed lessons and crafts! :)
I can't wait to try out your new Columbus Unit next week! :)  Love you girl! :)
