Hooray for Lirpaloof Day!

Have you guys ever heard of Lirpaloof Day?  I first heard of it from Denise over at Sunny Days in Second Grade.  I did it last year for the first time with my pal Daina...and this year, I did it with another teacher on my team! :)  It was a total blast! ;)

I started out by reading the passage that Denise wrote about the ficticious lirpaloof.  The students really got into reading and coding the text. Basically, the Lirpaloof is a bird that lives in tall trees.  You have to call it with a song and wave a carrot in the air.  We have a cafeteria at our school and the day that we were going out to find the lirpaloofs...there just *happened* to be some carrots and hummus in the cafeteria for lunch! :)

So we snagged a few of these from the lunch line.  We weren't sure if lirpaloofs liked hummus, so, the intern washed it all off! :)  Thanks, Brooke! :) LOL!
Our next step was to get outside and start calling for the Lirpaloof!

After they walked around enough and sang for the lirpaloof...I told them that it was an April Fool's trick.
Their faces were priceless! LOL!
So, when we went back inside, we talked about our experience and wrote about it too! :)
We created a quick craft to go on the writing too!

The kids did a great job!  It was a great shared experience!
On a personal note...it was my husband's 43rd birthday this week! :)
I was blessed to be able to take him out to a fun dinner at the Melting Pot, and miniature golf afterwards! :)
He also got some new shirts and a brand new Blackhawks jersey!

It was a wonderful day out! :)
I hope you'll try Lirpaloof Day in your classroom too! :)
How did you hoax your kids this year?
I'd love to hear all about it! :)
