I am going to link up with Leigh over at the Applicious Teacher for the last installment of her Apple A Day Linky Party! :) Click on the picture above if you'd like to see the back to school preparations from some other bloggers as well! :)
I pulled out my books for the first few days of school. It's an ecclectic mix of habits & procedures...along with piratey goodness!
I refreshed an activity that I did last year, based on the book Gingerbread Pirates. Last year, Jodi Southard over at Fun-In-First had a great freebie for back to school on the Gingerbread Man. Since I have a pirate themed classroom...I adapted the idea with the book Gingerbread Pirates!
I contacted her about it and she said that it would be okay to share it with you guys!
Can you believe it?
I was a 'wee bit' starstruck by the whole exchange...but...she was so cool about it...maybe she didn't notice my nerves! :) She's a very sweet and gracious lady! :)
For this activity, you will need the book, the clues, and these...
You can make them yourself, or buy them in the store.
You will hide the strips around the school in strategic locations, read the book to the kids, and then take them on a scavenger's hunt around the school to look for the clues. I'll leave the specifics of the directions to Jodi. You can find them on her blog by clicking the link HERE. She also has a freebie of her scavenger's hunt strips on the Gingerbread Man.
If you have a PIRATE themed classroom like me...click on the image below to download my scavenger's hunt that goes with the book Gingerbread Pirates!
I also refreshed my bus procedures craftivity from last year. It was in desperate need of an overhaul!
I added an informational text about bus safety & procedures.
There's a mini-book that the kids can take home and re-read with their parents.
I also came up with a pocket chart activity for the kids to do in whole group so that we could discuss things that they SHOULD and SHOULD NOT do while on the bus.
Last, but not least...there's a cute bus craftivity for the kids to complete. The kids will cut out and glue the bus together. Then, afterwards...they will write something that they will do while they are on the bus that shows good choices.
If you would like to win my brand new bus craftivity pack for your back to school preparations....
Click it up on the rafflecopter below! :)
