Greetings all! :)
Happy Weekend to ya! :)  My Five for Friday's tend to turn into five for SATURDAY, with as busy as I've been!  LOL! :)  Thanks for stopping by to see me though! :)

If you've not linked up with Doodlebugs Teaching before...all you do is write about five random things that happened to you this week, and then link up on her blog! :)

We've been working on a unit I wrote on the Underground Railroad.  I've been teaching it for years and just adding things to it every year...or taking things out depending on the class.  This year, I have the kind of class that can handle 'the works'!  We have had a blast this last two weeks reading all kinds of books on the time period!

Random item 1.)  I made up coloring sheets to match the Underground Railroad Quilt patterns that the kids learned about.  They had to solve addition and subtraction problems to discover which pattern was which.  We did one every day.  They LOVED morning work!

Random Item 2.)   We made research quilts this week too! It was super fun!  There was lots of cutting and gluing...several parent volunteers, but...we made it! :)  The students learned all about decomposition and recomposition through this wonderful activity!  So glad I gave it a chance with my firsties! :)

Random Item 3.)  We read loads of  books on the Underground Railroad and compared the informational and literary texts to each other.  It was really great!
Random Item 4.) We learned several songs this week.  The kids LOVE singing! :)  They are really good at Follow the Drinking Gourd! :)

Random Item 5.)  I think the kids responded to making drums the best.  LOL! :)  We got cans from the cafeteria and dressed up the outside with a simple pattern.  Then we practiced reading our poems in rhythm...and we also worked on syllabification of two, three and four syllable words from our unit!  A good time was had by all! :)

I am also hosting a giveaway until next Friday!
I hope you'll join me! :)
